VACATURE MINNEAPOLIS

The Department of German, Scandinavian & Dutch, University of Minnesota, is searching for an

Assistant Education Specialist in Dutch.

Starting 14 September 1998, the appointment is at 100% over nine months, requiring the teaching of undergraduate language skill courses in Dutch, or a portion of them in German as needed, and administrative duties relating to the language program, student advising and exchanges, and ACTFL proficiency. The position is for nine months per year, annually renewable based on satisfactory performance. Initial funding is available for three academic years. The academic year salary will be $ 34.000 - $ 36.000, depending on qualifications and experience. Medical insurance is provided. After three year's service, an Assistant Education Specialist may contribute to a retirement program.

A Master's, doctoraal, or the equivalent in Dutch, Foreign Language Education or a related field and two years of post-secondary teaching experience are required. A Ph.D. or the foreign equivalent is preferred. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Dutch and German and must have experience teaching German language-skill courses. Persons with experience teaching American undergraduates and background in foreign-language pedagogy, second language acquisition, or teaching for proficiency will be preferred. Demonstrated experience with computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and other technological applications in teaching of Dutch language also preferred.
