EMBLEMATICA ET ICONOGRAPHIA
Themes in Painting and Literature of the Low Countries from the 16th to the 18th Century

The Museum of Art at Olomouc possesses one of the major collections of Dutch and Flemish paintings in the Czech Republic. The greatest part of it originates from the collection of the Olomouc Archbishopric. This collection will be shown the first time to a greater public on 7 December 2000 at the exhibition "Olomoucká obrazárna II - Netherlandish Paintings from the 16th to the 18th Century from Olomouc Collections".

At the occasion of this exhibition the Museum of Art organizes in cooperation with the Philosophical Faculty of the Palacky University a three day conference on 7-9 December 2000 with the title "EMBLEMATICA ET ICONOGRAPHIA - Themes in painting and literature of the Low Countries from the 16th to the 18th century." During this conference experts from the Low Countries, Central Europe and the United Kingdom will confront the themes in the art of literature and painting and in the theatre of the Low Countries in the Golden Age.

The conference will be held at the Museum of Art and at the Philosophical Faculty of the Palacky University in an historical interesting part of the city of Olomouc. Olomouc was the former capital of Moravia and is still the seat of the Primas Moraviae, the Archbishop of Olomouc.

The official language of the conference will be English (main language), with Dutch and Czech as secondary languages. During the conference will be organized guided walks, concerts and other activities connected with the theme of the conference. Further informations and a registration form are part of this invitation.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Netherlands Language Union, the Prince Bernhard Fund, the Embassy of H.M. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands at Prague, the Representation of the Flemish Government at Vienna, the Olomouc City Council, the Archbishopric of Olomouc and the Palacky University for their support which made this conference possible.

We look forward to welcoming you in Olomouc in December.

Yours sincerely, Pavel Zatloukal, Museum of Art
